Jonathan Wolfson (born December 1, 1970) is an American television executive and manager. He is known for his managerial work with the musical group Daryl Hall & John Oates and the Canadian-rock group Loverboy.
He was previously well known for his publicity work with Suge Knight and Death Row Records through his company Wolfson Public Relations. Jonathan has executive produced Daryl Hall’s TV shows "Daryl’s Restoration Over-Hall" and "Live From Daryl’s House".
Early life and career beginnings
Jonathan Wolfson was born in Spring Valley, New York on December 1, 1970. In 1994, Wolfson moved to Los Angeles. He became an apprentice to publicist Lee Solters who later promoted him to the music department. After his work with Solters, Wolfson created his own publicity company “Wolfson Public Relations” which grew into a publicity, marketing, and management company called “Wolfson Entertainment”.
Wolfson Entertainment and clientele
Past and present clientele include Suge Knight, The Doors, 3 Doors Down, Godsmack, Yanni, The Dirty Heads, Everlast, Tonic, Afroman, Peter Noone, Big Tymers, Beth Hart, Nick Lachey, Toto, Blue October, YES, The Syn, T-Pain, Wu-Tang Clan, DMX, the Ventures, Motown’s 50th Anniversary, SRC/Loud Records founder Steve Rifkind and Cash Money’s Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams, on its publicity roster.
The company began managing acts and artists with Hall & Oates as its first act after doing publicity for the duo for five years at Wolfson PR. Loverboy was the next group to sign up for its management department.
Death Row Records
Wolfson signed Record Executive Marion “Suge” Knight and his record label Death Row Records for publicity services to Wolfson Public Relations after a personal visit to the hip-hop mogul in Mule Creek State Prison in 2000.
Hall & Oates
Hall & Oates signed with Jonathan Wolfson and Wolfson Entertainment initially to do publicity for the duo, but after five years, they signed up for full managerial services. After promoting and booking Daryl Hall’s web series, “Live from Daryl’s House”, now in its sixth year, Wolfson rose to become the show’s co-executive producer, which now airs on the Palladia Channel. He is also a co-executive producer on the DIY Network show, “Daryl’s Restoration Over-Hall,” which is set to air in early 2014.
Loverboy
Jonathan Wolfson signed the Canadian rock group Loverboy to Wolfson Entertainment in 2011. The entertainment group conducts managerial duties for the group.
Live Nation Acquirement
On April 5, 2018, industry trade, Variety, announced that Live Nation had acquired Wolfson Entertainment. The company, now under Artist Nation, is still run by Jonathan Wolfson.
Executive producer and other work
Daryl Hall’s music series Live From Daryl’s House is executive produced by both Hall and Wolfson. The show is centered on jam sessions that Daryl Hall performs with various artists he invites to his home in Millerton, New York. The series started in 2007 and has since broadcast over 60 episodes online. The show was picked up by Palladia, VH1, RFD-TV, and FamilyNetwork and new episodes are set to air starting in 2014. Past guests on Live From Daryl’s House have included his past bandmate John Oates, Cee Lo Green, KT Tunstall, Neon Trees, Minus the Bear, Jason Mraz, electrofunk duo Chromeo and Smokey Robinson. Jonathan Wolfson also served as an Executive Producer for Daryl Hall’s other television show, Daryl’s Restoration Over-Hall.The show began airing on Scripps Networks Interactive’s DIY Network in 2014.
