Biography

Jonathan Weissler (born October 1975) is a British Film Producer, Financier. He is Managing Director of the Film Production Company Balagan Productions.

Early life

Jonathan was born in London in 1975 and grew up in Barnet, North London. After seeing Jaws at the age of 5 Jonathan knew he had to make films. While a high achiever at school, he spent more time in the cinema than the classroom. He finally left school at 15 to begin working in the film industry.

Life and career

Jonathan Weissler entered the film industry in the early 90's where he worked as a Production Assistant and Third Assistant Director on wide range of Feature Films, TV Drama and Music Videos. His early credits include Interview With the Vampire, Braveheart and Mission Impossible 1.

In 1997 Jonathan produced his first feature film with the award winning "Time Enough" starring Dexter Fletcher and Foster Marks. The film went on to win best film at the Houston International Film Festival and make a healthy profit from its cinema and TV runs. This launched Jonathan's producing career and he has since gone on to produce 24 feature films, a 10-hour TV miniseries and countless commercials around the world.

In 2001 Jonathan produced the seminal British movie The Truth Game starring Paul Blackthorne & Selina Giles and directed by Simon Rumley. It premiered in at the Cannes Film Festival before playing in Cinemas around the world.

Also in 2001 Jonathan produced the film The Brasserie which shot in London, Tokyo and Hong Kong. It starred Louis Koo and Gigi Leung and was directed by Hing-Ka Chan. It grossed $38m putting it among the highest grossing films in Asia that year.

In 2003 Jonathan produced Life, Translated which filmed in UK and Shanghai. The film starred Edison Chen and John Fu. It was the first Chinese movie to ever shoot outside of China and Jonathan was the first foreigner to ever produce a Chinese movie in China.

In 2006 Jonathan partnered with Sir David Frost and Produced In Your Dreams starring Linda Hamilton & Susan George and directed by Gary Sinyor.

In 2009 Jonathan produced Reā€Uniting The Rubins starring Timothy Spall, Rhona Mitra & Honor Blackman which shot in London and South Africa before playing in cinemas around the world. It is now a popular movie screening regularly on TV, Cable and VOD.

Jonathan served as Executive Producer on the film French/UK Co Production White Lie (2012) starring David Birkin and Paul Bandey and directed by Nymia Cartier.

Personal life

Jonathan lives in London with his partner Lisa Questa and their daughter Kelta Rose Weissler (born June 2015)
