Biography

John Thomas Grigsby (5 January 1890 – 14 January 1977) was an American politician. Between 1929 and 1931 he served as Lieutenant Governor of South Dakota.

Life

John Grigsby was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was a brother of Sioux K. Grigsby (1873–1968) who was Lieutenant Governor of South Dakota between 1945 and 1949 and of George Barnes Grigsby (1974–1962) a delegate to the United States House of Representatives from the Territory of Alaska. There is no information available about his life besides politics in the sources. Politically he joined the Democratic Party. After the death of Lieutenant Governor Clarence E. Coyne on 27 May 1929 he was appointed to this office to complete Coyne’s unfished term until January 1931. In this function he was the deputy of Governor William J. Bulow and he presided over the South Dakota Senate. After the end of his term he did not hold any political offices. John Grigsby died on 14 January 1977 in Missouri and was buried on the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Neosho.
