John Stewart Kennedy

John Stewart Kennedy was involved in several business ventures during his lifetime. He started his career in the banking industry and eventually became a partner in the banking firm of John Kennedy & Sons. He also invested in railroads, particularly the New York Central Railroad, and served as the president of the Metropolitan Trust Company and the Hanover National Bank. In addition, Kennedy was the vice president of the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York.

John Stewart Kennedy was known for his philanthropic activities, particularly in the field of education. He made significant donations to various educational institutions, including Columbia University, Princeton University, and the College of the City of New York. Kennedy also established the John S. Kennedy Memorial Library at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, which later became part of Columbia University.
