After resigning from Parliament at the 1996 elections, Falloon worked with at-risk children and pursued business interests, such as becoming chairman or Wairarapa winery Lintz Estate.

He had been ill for several weeks after undergoing surgery in Wellington Hospital for a brain tumour and died at his home in Bideford, near Masterton, New Zealand in 2005.

Falloon's cousin, Ian Falloon, was one of the first psychiatrists to have family involved in the treatment of schizophrenia.
