Biography

John Bristow (25 April 1701 – 14 November 1768) was an English merchant and politician.

He was the third surviving son of Robert Bristow (1662–1706), of Micheldever in Hampshire, who was MP Winchelsea. His brother Robert Bristow (1712–1776) was also MP for Winchelsea.

He was a leading merchant in trade with Portugal, and a prominent figure in the South Sea Company, of which he was a director, then deputy governor.

He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Bere Alston from 1734 to 1741, for St Ives from 1741 to 1754, for Bere Alston again from 1754 to 1761, and for Arundel from 1761 to 1768.
