Biography

John 'Jocky' Dempster (born 8 October 1948) is a Scottish former professional footballer.

Career

Dempster played with junior outfit Muirkirk before signing for Queen of the South F.C. at the start of the 1969–70 season.

Dempster is best known for his time at Dumfries club, Queen of the South. The 1970s goalscoring winger and penalty taker found the net 98 times during 355 first team games for Queens placing him 4th in the all-time scoring charts. Jocky Dempster is in a select group of only 18 players to have made over 300 appearances for Queens. Dempster played alongside team mates Allan Ball, Iain McChesney and Crawford Boyd who were named amongst the best eleven that he played beside at Queens.

Queen of the South just missed out on promotion in Dempster's first season at Palmerston Park, season 1969-70, as the club finished 3rd in the table behind Falkirk and Cowdenbeath respectively, in Scottish League Division Two.

After leaving Palmerston Park, Dempster played for senior clubs St Mirren and Clyde for a season apiece, before moving to junior outfit Cumnock.
