Ji Xinpeng is a retired Chinese badminton player. He is the first Chinese player to win an Olympic gold medal in men's singles.
Early life
Ji Xinpeng was born on 30 December 1977 in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China.
Sports career
Xinpeng's athletic career began in 1989, at the age of 12, when he was selected in Xiamen badminton team from Shashi, Hubei Province. In 1996, he was selected in the national badminton team.
In 2000 All England Open Badminton Championships, Xinpeng defeated the then-number-1 Peter Gade, and was placed third.
In April 2000, he participated in the Japan Badminton Open and won the men's singles.
In May 2000, at the Thomas Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Xinpeng was placed second after being defeated by Taufik Hidayat from Indonesia.
Xinpeng won the title in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney after he defeated Indonesian player, Hendrawan.
In the 2001 All England open, Xinpeng lost to Indian badminton player, Pullela Gopichand.
In 2002, Xinpeng became a national badminton coach.
