Biography

Jesús de la Rosa Luque (5 March 1948–14 October 1983) was a Spanish singer and composer. He was the vocalist of the progressive rock group Triana, heavily influenced by flamenco, and important in the development of Rock andaluz.

Biography

Early life

De la Rosa, a native of Seville, began his career as a singer and keyboardist in the Spanish capital Madrid, where he did his mandatory military service. Before this, he formed a group called The New Era, a British rock band with lyrics in English. Later he joined Tabaca, the band that later became Triana. In Tabaca he met the future guitarist of Triana, Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway, in 1973. The band however had no clear direction, which led to its early end a year later. After the split, however, Jesus and Eduardo, together with a drummer, Juan José Palacios ("Tele"), formed Triana. In 1980, after three great albums (El Patio, Hijos de Agobio, and Sombra y Luz), the group entered a crisis concerning their success and fame, and their shift in genre towards the simple intimate tones of pop. After a further three albums, the band came to an end when De la Rosa was killed on 14 October 1983 after his car crashed into a van on the motorway near Burgos.
