Early life
Jeffrey Abramson was born as Jeffrey Todd Abramson on October 18, 1974, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to David and Joyce Abramson. He has two older twin sisters Laura and Michelle (born 1966.)
Abramson attended New York University, from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film, with minor in Marketing from NYU's Stern School of Business.
Career
Jeffrey Abramson started his show business career in 1996 working as a production assistant for the films Fargo, starring William H. Macy and Steve Buscemi, and Feeling Minnesota, starring Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz. In that period, he also worked in location management for two films: action/comedy D3: The Mighty Ducks and comedy/drama Edge of Seventeen, in which he also played the character of "Dan McAllistair" alongside Chris Stafford and Tina Holmes.
1998 saw his production debut with a 30-min short film Melvin: A Midwestern Tale, which was directed by Travis Graalman and had Rocky Frisco and Robert Kenney in the lead cast. In 2000, he produced a short film titled Drone (directed by Kyle Newman).
In 2015, Abramson made his first documentary feature Live from New York! that explores the early years of NBC's comedy TV show "Saturday Night Live." It was directed by Bao Nguyen and features many of the past and present SNL members including Fred Armisen, Alec Baldwin, Candice Bergen, Chevy Chase, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, and Will Ferrell, among many others.
In 2016, he produced a short documentary titled A History of Cuban Dance, which, as the name suggests, examines the history of Cuban dance from rumba, tumba, mambo, cha-cha-cha, modern, salsa, breakdancing to reggaeton. It was directed by Lucy Walker.
Most recently, in 2017, Abramson, as Executive-in-Charge of production, produced 36 episodes of Discovery channel's Discovery TRVLR. The series, a virtual reality project in collaboration with Google, is broken into seven chapters, each exploring each of the seven continents. Chapters for North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia comprise six episodes each, while the chapter for Antarctica features two episodes. It was directed by filmmaker and explorer Addison O'Dea.
In addition, Abramson is a director of the Gen Art Film Festival since 2001 and Vice President of the Film Division at Gen Art. He is also an advisor to Earthxfilm and Infinity Festival, Hollywood.
