Jeff McKay

Jeffrey C. "Jeff" McKay is a Democratic politician who currently serves on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in Northern Virginia. He represents the Lee district, which includes the Springfield and Franconia areas. He first won election in November 2007.In 2019, he was elected as chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, taking office in January 2020.

McKay graduated from James Madison University in December 1996 with a bachelor's degree.He had served as president of the college Young Democrats in 1994–95 as a sophomore, in the spring of 1996, and in the fall of 1996 as a senior.Before college, he attended Bishop Ireton High School, a private Roman Catholic high school where he was a member of the class of 1993.

McKay's grandmother, Dorothea Morris, instilled in him the desire to serve the public.Morris was an active Democratic Party member in Fairfax County.She served as a volunteer campaign staffer for numerous local, state, and national campaigns beginning in the 1950s, and was a Fairfax County voter registrar, election official, and member of the Lee District Democratic Committee, where she also served as treasurer from 1959 to 1995.

Shortly after graduating from JMU in 1996, McKay was hired to serve as Chief of Staff to Lee District Supervisor Dana Kauffman. He continued in that position for more than a decade, until Kauffman retired in 2007.

McKay married Crystal Newsome in 2005. They have two children, Leann and Aidan.

McKay was under investigation by the Virginia State Police in 2019.The investigation considered whether McKay's purchase of his family home from a developer friend for $850,000 in 2017 was an undisclosed gift, which would have been a misdemeanor. McKay denied malfeasance, and was later cleared of any wrongdoing.
