Biography
James Beattie "Jay" Magness (born 1946 or 1947) is an American Anglican bishop and former military chaplain. Since June 2010, he has served as Bishop for Armed Services and Federal Ministries in the Episcopal Church (United States). As such, he is responsible for the Episcopal chaplains and their congregations in the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He had previously served as a military chaplain in the United States Navy Chaplain Corps, from which he retired in 2003 with the rank of captain. He will retire from full-time ministry and step down from his bishopric in 2017; he will be succeeded as bishop by Carl Wright.
