Biography

Jared Ian Goldman (born 1979 in Long Island, New York) is an American film producer. He specializes in producing independent films that "strike a balance of playfulness and poignancy". He is known for his work on Ingrid Goes West, The Skeleton Twins, the Academy Award-nominated Loving, Adult Beginners, Kill Your Darlings, Solitary Man, And So It Goes, Little Boxes, and the Sundance Grand Jury Prize winning documentary Manda Bala (Send a Bullet).

Life and career

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English and Economics in 2001, he began working at Miramax in Acquisitions, Delivery and Business Affairs before moving on to GreeneStreet Films where he was manager of the production department on a wide range of films, including: In The Bedroom, Swimfan, Uptown Girls, Romance & Cigarettes, and A Prairie Home Companion. During his time at GreeneStreet, Goldman worked with Sony Pictures, MGM, Paramount, Fox and Miramax Films.

Goldman departed GreeneStreet in late 2005 to produce Manda Bala (Send a Bullet) with Jason Kohn and Joey Frank. Manda Bala would go on to win numerous prizes including: Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Feature Filmmaking at the inaugural Cinema Eye Honors, Special Grand Jury Prize at the 2007 BRITDOC Film Festival, Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, and a Special Jury Award at the 2007 Rome Film Festival. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by City Lights Pictures for North America and by Celsius Entertainment for international release. During this time he also worked as production manager on Noise for Seven Arts Pictures and The Visitor for Participant Media. Following his work as inline producer on the 2008 Sundance Audience Award prize-winning film The Wackness, Goldman would jump into producing full-time.

After co-producing the Luke Wilson and Gretchen Mol comedy Tenure (2008) and the Michael Douglas vehicle Solitary Man (2009), Goldman would earn his first executive producing credit on Father of Invention (2010), which starred Kevin Spacey with Virgina Madsen, John Stamos, and Heather Graham. Since then, Goldman has worked as a producer and executive producer with Rob Reiner and Morgan Freeman on The Magic of Belle Isle (2012), Keanu Reeves and Mark L Mann on Generation Um... (2013), Daniel Radcliffe and John Krokidas on Kill Your Darlings (2013), Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, and Craig Johnson on The Skeleton Twins (2014), Diane Keaton with Michael Douglas & Rob Reiner again on And So It Goes (2014), Ruth Negga, Joel Edgerton, and Jeff Nichols on the multi-award-winning film Loving (2016), Woody Harrelson and Laura Dern, with Craig Johnson again on Wilson (2017), and Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olsen, Billy Magnussen on Ingrid Goes West (2017), which premiered in competition at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.

Despite his success in producing independent hits, Goldman has not abandoned documentary film-making. In 2010 he produced the Dan Hurlin documentary, Puppet, and he recently wrapped on Insha'Allah Democracy, filmmaker Mohammed Naqvi's personal exploration of the turbulent post 9/11 politics in Pakistan. InSha'Allah, which follows exiled former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's quest to re-win Pakistan's presidential election, was recently named one of the 12 Must-See Documentaries About Current World Politics by HuffPost.

Currently, Goldman is preparing for the release of the film adaptation of Shirley Jackson's masterpiece, We Have Always Lived in the Castle which was directed by Stacie Passon and stars Taissa Farmiga, Alexandra Daddario, Crispin Glover, and Sebastian Stan. Additionally, he has two films, Submission - which stars Addison Timlin, Stanley Tucci, and Janeane Garofalo - and Alex Strangelove - which was written by his frequent artistic collaborator Craig Johnson and stars Isabella Amara, Ayden Mayeri and Joanna Adler - in post production with release dates scheduled for 2018.

Personal life

Goldman is married to the independent art curator and gallerist, Jenny Mushkin-Goldman, whom he met in 2007 while showing Manda Bala at the Sundance Film Festival. They have a son and are members of the National Arts Club. Like his wife, Goldman, is fan of the visual arts, jazz music, and ballet. He is a member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA) and the Directors Guild of America (DGA).

He lives in New York City.
