Biography
Jan Metlevski is a Lithuanian-born American entomologist.
Metlevski was born in Lithuania. He started collecting moths and butterflies at the age of 7. He received a B.S. degree in Zoology from Vilnius University, Lithuania, in 1998. He earned an M.S. degree in Zoology, in 2003, from the same university.
While in Europe, beginning 1989, he regularly went on collecting expeditions every year. He collected in southeastern part of European Russia, in Far East of Russia and in other countries including Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia.
In 2002, Metlevski migrated to Kansas, USA, where he began working at the Department of Entomology at Kansas State University. His scientific interests include systematics, biodiversity, faunistic, and biogeography of the owlet moths (Noctuidae).
In the USA, he has collected moths in several states including Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Kansas.
