Biography

Jaime Magana Cerda (born October 26, 1978 in Fresno, California) is a retired left-handed Major League Baseball relief pitcher. Cerda played previously with the New York Mets (2002–2003) and the Kansas City Royals (2004–2005). Cerda, who is of Mexican American descent, played with the Tacoma Rainers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, in 2007, but was released due to his high ERA.[1]

While warming up in the bullpen during a 2005 game against the Baltimore Orioles, Cerda developed a fan base known as Cerda's Seven. At the end of the night he was kind enough to sign Butch Carfley's, a renowned NJ high-school football coach, baseball. Cerda's fan club is based in Maryland and has made several attempts to attend his games in 2006 without much success. The seven have gained in numbers since 2005 and are especially drawn towards his record setting bullpen fastballs and kind demeanor.

Cerda graduated from Selma High School (CA) in 1996. He was drafted by the New York Mets in the 23rd round of the 1998 major league baseball draft out of Fresno City Community College.

Jaime Cerda is married.
