Jacksel M. Broughton

Jacksel "Jack" M. Broughton (March 29, 1913 – October 27, 2014) was a World War II flying ace, the author/reporter of 24 books and hundreds of newspapers and magazine articles, and a business executive.

During World War II, Broughton flew combat missions as a "phantom" (unofficial pilot) for Chennault's 1st American Volunteer Group, also known as the "Flying Tigers," in China.

After the war, Broughton returned to the United States and served in various roles in the United States Air Force. He became widely known as an author and reporter, documenting his experiences and sharing his knowledge in books, newspapers, and magazines.

In the U.S. Air Force, Broughton served as a squadron commander, wing commander, and eventually rose to the rank of colonel. He also played a key role in the development and testing of modern air-to-air missiles.

Broughton received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, and Legion of Merit. He was also inducted into the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame and the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame.
