J. Anthony Crane, aka Tony Crane (born October 19, 1972) is an American film, television, and stage actor. He is best known for his portrayal of "Remy McSwain" in television series The Big Easy, a small screen adaptation of the 1987 movie (starring Dennis Quaid).
Early life
J. Anthony Crane was born on October 19, 1972, in Los Angeles, California. His father is a prominent women's doctor in Los Angeles. After the death of his mother in 2002, he relocated to New York City to pursue a career on stage.
He began acting on television fairly young when he was 15.
Career
Film/television
Crane made his screen debut in 1987, at the age of 15, with the role of "Roger" in "Dream Date" episode of the TV series Family Ties. Two years later, in 1989, he was cast as "Bob" in four episodes of Day by Day. 1989 also saw his film debut with a minor role of a teenage boy in Danny DeVito's comedy The War of the Roses, starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and DeVito.
In the years 1990-1991, he was seen in the recurring role of "Jeffrey Cummings" in 13 episodes of Out of This World.
In 1995-1997, he starred as "Remy McSwain" in 35 episodes of the TV series The Big Easy, alongside Barry Corbin and Eric George.
Crane's other television credits include JAG (1999), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation(2000), The Practice (2002), Judging Amy (2002), Six Degrees (2006), Ugly Betty(2009), and Madam Secretary (2017).
In 2018, he lent his voice to "Nathan Kirk" character in the video game Red Dead Redemption II.
Crane has also finished filming for Ganaga Goba's crime/drama Respect the Jux, starring Tony Sirico, Robert Costanzo, and Ciera Payton. The film is currently in the post-production phase with the release date yet to be announced.
Stage
In the early 2000s, Crane relocated to New York City to pursue his theatre career. He made his Broadway debut in Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies' Sight Unseen, understudying actor Ben Shenkman. He appeared in that show in 2008 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. In 2006, he understudied Michael Byrne (as Reg Nuttall) and Richard O'Callaghan (as Joseph Keyston) in Simon Gray's Butley.
He also appeared as "Lancelot" in the Las Vegas production of the musical Spamalot.
In 2010, he took on the role of Scar in Disney's musical production of The Lion King.
