Biography

Isabel Fonseca (born 1961, New York City) is an American writer.
She is the youngest of Uruguayan sculptor Gonzalo Fonseca's four children, and the sister of the painters Caio Fonseca and Bruno Fonseca (1958–1994).
She attended Concord Academy and graduated magna cum laude from Barnard College in 1984. She then studied at Wadham College, Oxford and worked in publishing and newspapers in London, notably at the Times Literary Supplement.
She is the author of the bestselling Bury Me Standing: The Gypsies and Their Journey (1995), a non-fiction book about the lives of Romani people. The book is organized in eight chapters with sections; it contains black and white photographs and maps.
Her debut novel, Attachment, was published by Alfred A Knopf in 2009.
She lived in Uruguay for two and a half years with her husband, the writer Martin Amis, with whom she has two daughters. She and Amis currently live in Brooklyn, New York.
