Irakli Gogia (Georgian: ირაკლი გოგია) (born May 20, 1982 Tbilisi) is a Georgian theater director, Art researcher.

Biography

Irakli Gogia was born May 20, 1982 in Tbilisi.

In 1997-2000 he studied at the Art College, Tbilisi, Georgia. And then he graduated drama directing faculty (a creative masterful of Medea Kutchukhidze, George Margvelashvili, Avtandil Varsimashvili) of the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University, 2006 (Master’s degree).

Irakli Gogia puts 40 performances at Georgian theaters, and also cooperates with other theaters.

In 2003 he founded ‘Akhali Teatri’ (New Theatre), the first production of new established theatre was ‘Strange theatre’s world’, based on French playwright’s Marcel Mithois’ story. In 2004 he was awarded the prize of ‘Best Director of the Year’ for the production ‘Strange theatre’s world and the special prize for establishing new space for theatre.

In 2006 after finishing his MA studies Irakli Gogia started work as General Manager and Art Director of Shalva Dadiani Zugdidi State Drama Theatre. In this theater he directed more than 10 performances.

Currently he is holding a position of Artistic Director at Sandro Akhmeteli Tbilisi State Drama Theatre.

Irakli Gogia is involved in different artistic projects and doing theoretical research as a PhD Candidate in European Theatre Education. He also makes research in General Psychology and in theories of Noussphaira. He also is involved in the projects related with non-violence and solving conflicts. In 2014 he was one of the organizers in International Peace Camp (Georgia).

Irakli Gogia is a lecturer in Introduction to Direction, Department of Science and Art at Ilia State University.

In 2012 together with his young colleagues Irakli Gogia became a founder of ‘Modern Georgian Theatre Research Center’. The centre’s focus is on research as well as international collaborative projects.

Irakli Gogia is member in organizations: IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts), 2009 and IUTA (International University Theatre Association), 2012.

2015 together with his Estonian colleagues Irakli Gogia became a founder of 'Estonian Georgian Art Center'. The centre’s focus is on international collaborative projects.
