İbrahim Doğuş (born July 1980) is a British politician, entrepreneur, restaurateur. He is founder of the Centre for Turkey Studies.
In the 2017 UK general election, he was the parliamentary candidate for the Labour Party for the Cities of London and Westminster constituency.
Early life
He is the son of Kurdish refugees from Turkey who arrived in the UK in 1994.
Career
Business
Doğuş is a former waiter, and owner of Troia restaurant in Waterloo, London.
He founded the Centre for Turkey Studies (CEFTUS), which organises the British Kebab Awards. The British Kebab Awards have been presented by several proiment politicians including Jeremy Corbyn and Sadiq Khan.
Doğuş is owner of the beer brand Bira, marketed as the world's first beer as accompaniment to kebabs.
Politics
He is a commentator on Turkish, Kurdish and UK politics.
Doğuş became a community activist in the early 2000s, and was shot while trying to combat drug crime in Hackney, where he lived.
He is founder of the Centre for Kurdish Progress and the SME4Labour group. Doğuş has long been an active organiser for the Turkish and Kurdish community in London and the UK.
As the parliamentary candidate for the Labour Party for the Cities of London and Westminster constituency in the June 2017 UK general election, he gained an 11% swing for Labour, and came second with 14,857 votes (38.4%).
