Biography

Herman Alfred Schmid (August 3, 1910 – April 12, 1985) was a Brigadier General in the United States Air Force.

Biography

Schmid was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1910. He would attend Pasadena Junior College. Schmid died on April 12, 1985.

Career

Schmid was commissioned an officer in 1933. During World War II he took part in the Burma Campaign. During the Korean War he was in command of the 4th Fighter-Interceptor Wing. Later he entered the National War College. Following graduation he was named Director of NATO Affairs in the Office of the United States Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs. He was later named Military Assistant to the United States Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs.

Awards he received include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters.
