Biography

Helen Rodd is a Canadian zoologist and Associate professor at the University of Toronto. Dr. Rodd's work focuses on reproductive strategies among livebearing fish, as part of an effort to understand mate selection among animals. Her work on mate preference in the guppy fish species (Poecilia reticulata) attracted media attention in numerous nature magazines and the United States public broadcasting service, as well as academic notice, based upon her research finding that female guppies in Trinidad may choose males for orange coloration similar to a favored food, the fruit of a local tree. In 2001, Professor Rodd was awarded a Premier's Research Excellence Award by the Ontario government for her work in guppy mate selection.
Dr. Rodd received her Ph.D. in Biology from York University in Toronto.
