Biography
Harry Amoo Dodoo was a chartered accountant and a public servant. He was the first Gold Coast native to be a chartered accountant and the first Gold Coast indegene to work with Cassleton Elliot and Company (now KPMG). He was vice president of the Association of Accountants of the Gold Coast (which was later renamed; the Association of Accountants in Ghana), he also served on the first council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ghana and was also a past president of the institute. He worked with the Ghana Cocoa Board rising through the ranks from accountant, chief account, general manager, managing director, to chief executive.
Early life and education
Harry Dodoo was born in August 1918 at Accra, Greater Accra Region, Gold Coast. He studied at the Accra Academy from 1935 to 1938.
Career
In 1939 Harry joined the Accountant General's department of the Gold Coast and worked there as a chartered accountant. In 1945 he joined Cassleton Elliot and Company as the first Gold Coast indigene chartered accountant. He worked with the firm until 1952 when he was appointed accountant for the Ghana Cocoa Marketing Board (now Ghana Cocoa Board). In 1953 he was promoted to chief accountant and on 25 May 1955 he became the general manager of the Ghana Cocoa Marketing Board. He served in that capacity until 28 February 1965 and on 1 March 1965 he was appointed managing director of the company. He served as managing director of the Ghana Cocoa Marketing Board until 22 February 1967. He was appointed Chief Executive of Cocobod in 1983, serving until 1985. In the early 1960s he served on the board of the Ghana Main Reef Limited. He served as president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ghana from 1974 to 1976.
