Career
Goren designs logos and fonts, and does the graphic design for websites, books, flyers and newsletters. In 2002, Goren launched her own graphic design company, named Harriet R Goren Design. Prior to that, she was senior art director at Iguana Studios, a web development firm, and design director at Sloan Group. She teaches graphic design at Touro College.
With her firm, she works with her clients and asks them questions about their business or service in order to develop a "mutually satisfactory visual design". She asks clients questions to find out what their style is and find out what type of message they want to get across. She has found that it can be hard to communicate thoughts and concepts visually. To help transform concepts into images, she asks clients "metaphoric questions".
She created a font, Morire, that was part of the experimental "grunge typography" movement of the 1990s, so-named because it shared aesthetic principles with the music genre of the same name. Other graphic designers who developed grunge typography included Hat Nguyen (Droplet) and Eric Lin (Tema Canante).
