Gordon Maltzberger

Gordon Ralph Maltzberger (September 4, 1912 – December 11, 1974) was a professional baseball player. He was a right-handed pitcher over parts of four seasons (1943–44, 1946–47) with the Chicago White Sox. For his career, he compiled a 20–13 record in 135 appearances, mostly as a relief pitcher, with a 2.70 earned run average and 136 strikeouts. Maltzberger was one of the few baseball players who wore glasses and may not have had a professional baseball career if it were not for the fact that many players had joined the military in support of World War II. Maltzberger would also serve in the Army in 1945, missing a season.
After his playing career, Maltzberger was a minor league manager in the Milwaukee Braves and White Sox farm systems, and served as the pitching coach for the Minnesota Twins for three seasons.
He was born in Utopia, Texas and later died in Rialto, California at the age of 62. He was buried at the Hermosa Memorial Cemetery in Colton, California.
