Biography
Gord Renwick (from Cambridge, Ontario was part of the first class of recipients to be honored with the Order of Hockey in Canada.
Life
Renwick was known for his work in the structure of Canadian hockey off the ice. Renwick helped to establish the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, (known today as Hockey Canada. He was CAHA president from 1977 to 1979, and served on the Board of the IIHF for a period of twenty years. As a board member, he organized Russian club tours of Canada. In addition, Renwick was one of the organizers of the Canadian Wrigley Cup National Midget Tournament, known today as the TELUS Cup.
In his hometown, Renwick was one of the founders of the Galt Hornets. As the Hornets celebrated two Allan Cup wins, Renwick served as its president. The senior Central Canadian Championship Renwick Cup is named in his honor. The winner of that title advances to the Allan Cup.
Personal
He was part of the inaugural group of recipients of the Order of Hockey in Canada along with Jean BĂ©liveau, Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe. The then 76-year-old Renwick received the honour at the Hockey Canada Foundation Gala on June 25, 2012 in Toronto. Renwick has five children and thirteen grandchildren.
