Gloria Rand (born 16 June 1933) is a Canadian former television actress active in the 1950s. She was the first wife of actor William Shatner.
Career
Gloria Rand was born on June 16, 1933, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She was seen in various episodes of four television series:
- Lamp Unto My Feet: in episode "Weekend Pass" (1954)
- Goodyear Playhouse: in episode "Backfire" (1955)
- On Camera: in episode "Dreams" (1956)
- Encounter: as Ciboulette in episode "Zone" and as Carmelita in episode "Tolliver's Travels" (1956)
Rand retired from acting after her marriage with Shatner.
Personal life
Rand was married to famous Canadian actor William Shatner from 12 August 1956 - 4 March 1969. They married in Canada. Shatner left Rand while he was acting in Star Trek: The Original Series (1966), after which she divorced him in March 1969, in California.
The couple had three children: Leslie Carol Shatner (born 1958), actress/writer Lisabeth Shatner (born 1961), and actress Melanie Shatner (born 1 August 1964).
Rand happens to be the mother-in-law of American actor Joel Gretsch, who is married to Melanie Shatner since 5 September 1999.
After his first marriage with Rand, Shatner married his second wife, actress Marcy Lafferty (daughter of producer Perry Lafferty) in 1973. The marriage ended in divorce in 1996. He was then married to actress Nerine Kidd from 1997 until her death on 9 August 1999.
In 2001, Shatner married his fourth wife, screenwriter Elizabeth Anderson Martin. In 2004, she co-wrote the song "Together" on Shatner's album Has Been. Shatner filed for divorce from Martin in 2019.
