Biography
Ghamar Ariyan (Persian: قمر آریان) (March 22, 1922 – April 11, 2012) was an Iranian researcher and author, the first woman to graduate from the Faculty of Literature at Tehran University, the first female university professor in Iran and a member of the Supreme Council of the Great Islamic Encyclopedia. She was married to doctor Abdolhossein Zarinkoob.
In the ninth decade of her life she created works of lasting cultural, social and political standing. She participated in the Congress of Orientalists in India, met Nima Youshij and attended the trial of Mohammad Mosaddegh, Prime Minister of the national government after the coup of August 28.
