Biography

George Zinn was a Union Army officer in the American Civil War. He was promoted to brevet brigadier general of volunteers on April 6, 1865.

Civil War

George Zinn served as colonel of the 57th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment of the Union Army. Earlier, he had served as the second lieutenant of Pennsylvania Company B at the Battle of Gettysburg.

Family

Zinn's son, Captain George Zinn, demonstrated the Browning machine gun to the American Expeditionary Force during World War I. His grandson George Zinn was a pilot who was killed during a mid-air collision over Trenton, New Jersey.
