Biography

George Gardiner Scott (1915 – 26 July 1942) was a Scottish professional football inside right who played in the Scottish League for Aberdeen and East Fife.

Personal life

Scott attended Lumphinnans Primary School. In 1941, during the Second World War, he enlisted in the RAF and during a period training in Canada, met and married his wife Jessie. Scott returned to Scotland in 1942 and was posted to No. 19 Operational Training Unit at RAF Kinloss. On 26 July 1942, Scott was a member of a crew undertaking training in an Armstrong Whitworth Whitley when the aircraft suffered an engine failure and crashed in the North Sea off the coast of Tain. His body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Air Forces Memorial.
