George Morgan (born November 17, 1932) is an American stage and television actor, known for his roles in M*A*S*H (1972), Chafed Elbows (1966), and The Wide World of Mystery (1973).

Life and Career

George Morgan was born on November 17, 1932, in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Stage acting

He started his acting career on stage in the late 1950s. In July 1958, he played Theophilus and Walter in Jean Anouilh's play, Time Remembered, at the Williamstown Theatre Festival production at the Adams Memorial Theatre Main Stage at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts with Tom Brennan (Lord Hector); Richard Cavett (The Ice Cream Man); Converse M. Converse (Ferdinand); John Cunningham (The Landlord); and Sue Ann Gilfillan (The Duchess of Pont-Au Bronc). The same month, he also appeared as the Waiter in French novelist Jean Giraudoux's play, The Madwoman of Chaillot, at the Williamstown Theatre Festival production at the Adams Memorial Theatre Main Stage at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts with John Brachita (The Ragpicker); Tom Brennan (President); M.C. Caroline (Lady); Richard Cavett (Dr. Jadin); John Cunningham (Press Agent);

In August 1958, he played "Cadet" in American theatre director and lyricist, Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire's musical, Cyrano, in a Williamstown Theatre Festival production at the Adams Memorial Theatre in Williamstown, Massachusetts with Janet Bell (Pastry Girl); Richard Cavett (Ragueneau); Henry Cole (Cadet); Katina Cumming (Young Lady); Carol Cunningham (Pastry Girl, The Recruit's Girl); John Cunningham (Cyrano); Marjorie George (The Court Lady, The Nun); Sue Ann Gilfillan (The Duenna); Mimi Gisolfi (Court Lady); Nancy Hirsche (Court Lady); Keith Holzman (A Townsman); Elizabeth Hubbard (Roxane); Gina Ingoglia (Young Lady); and George Mallonee (A Fop, Cadet, The Recruit).

Television acting

In 1968, Morgan began acting in television. He played a few supporting roles in various American television series in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1968, he appeared as "Brig Mitchell" in "The Friend" episode of The Doris Day Show. Morgan is perhaps best known for a short time in the role of "Father Mulcahy" in the pilot episode of the series M*A*S*H, which he only played in this episode. After two episodes, Morgan was replaced by William Christopher, but he still aired all MASH episodes as he continues to appear in a scene in the show's opening credits.

His most recent television appearance was in the role of "Marc Follin" in Jeannot Szwarc's 1990 TV movie Have a Nice Night, starring Michael Brandon, Marisa Berenson, and Guy Marchand.

Personal life

Morgan has retired from acting and currently resides on Martha's Vineyard (Wampanoag: Noepe), south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
