Frederick Beir (September 21, 1927–June 3, 1980) was an American television and film actor. He is known for his roles in numerous popular television shows including TV series like Bonanza, Perry Mason, Maverick, The Andy Griffith Show, Wagon Train, The Twilight Zone (the 1963 episode "Death Ship"), Ben Casey, The Outer Limits, and The Munsters.
Background and Career
Frederick Edwin Beir was born on September 21, 1927, in Niagara Falls, New York.
His acting career began in 1950 with his appearing in the TV series Repertory Theatre. He made his film debut in 1954, in George Sherman-directed Border River.
He received moderate success in films, but established himself as a popular television actor, appearing in numerous adventure, detective, and Western episodes.
In 1964, he appeared in two Western films: "Damned Pistols of Dallas" by Spanish director José María Zabalza and "Tres dólares de plomo" by Italian director Pino Mercanti. Italian-Greek actress Evi Marandi was his co-star in both films. The films were not successful commercially, following which, Beir continued to work on his television career. Over the years, he appeared in several popular TV series such as The Munsters, CHiPs, Lou Grant, Dallas, and Harry O.
Death
Beir died of cancer in Los Angeles, California, on June 3, 1980, at age 52. He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
