Biography
Francisco Lupini Basagoiti (born 5 September 1989, in Caracas, Venezuela) was named the best Latino director on the East Coast by the Director's of America for his directing in the short film El Nido Vacío (The Empty Nest) in 2012. Now a New York-based filmmaker, Francisco was born in Caracas, Venezuela to Spanish and Italian parents. Over the past 5 years Francisco's films have earned him over 60 Official Festival Selections around the world. He has received multiple Audience Awards at festivals including Chicago Latino Film Festival and the Palm Springs International Shortfest. He was awarded the Golden Palm Award at the Mexico International Film Festival, Best Short Film at the Columbus International Film + Video Festival and a special mention for Best Drama at the Trieste Festival of Latin American Cinema in Italy.
His work often features strong female protagonists and focuses on themes about family drama, human obsessions and the pursuit of truth through an Italian sensibility and Spanish flair inspired by the Latin American experience. Francisco received his BFA in Film and TV Production as well as Dramatic Literature from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. His first feature film ¡He matado a mi marido! (I killed my husband!) which was an official selection at the Global Script Challenge in the Oaxaca FilmFest, is scheduled to be released in 2017 and it stars Maria Conchita Alonso, Assumpta Serna, Eduardo Yañez, Guy Ecker, Alicia Machado, Gaby Espino, amongst others.
In 2011 he founded his producing company Imperator Pictures based in New York City.
Career
¡He matado a mi marido! - 2017
I killed my husband! is Lupini's first feature film, a spanish comedy about a desperate woman who accidentally kills her cheating husband the morning of a big party honoring his recent Pritzker Prize win, and must survive the pain of heartbreak and a night of celebration, without being found out.
The film was produced in Los Angeles in October 2016 and stars Maria Conchita Alonso, Assumpta Serna, Eduardo Yañez, Guy Ecker, Alicia Machado, Gaby Espino and has an expected release for 2017.
