Biography

Francesco Conti (died 1521) was an Italian Roman Catholic bishop and cardinal.

Biography

Francesco Conti was born in Rome, ca. 1470, the son of Jacopo Conti, signore of Carpineto (and a member of the Roman nobility); and Elisabetta Carafa della Stadera. He was the nephew of Cardinal Giovanni Conti. He was educated in law.

On October 8, 1494, he was elected Archbishop of Conza. He never visited the archdiocese, ruling through a series of vicar generals.

Pope Leo X made him a cardinal priest in the consistory of July 1, 1517. He received the red hat and the titular church of San Vitale on July 6, 1517. He served as Camerlengo of the Sacred College of Cardinals from January 11, 1520 to January 7, 1521.

He died in Rome on June 29, 1521. He is buried in San Vitale.
