Biography

Frances McCue, an award-winning poet and arts administrator.

Life

She got her Bachelor of Arts at the University of New Hampshire. She graduated from Columbia University PhD, where she was a Klingenstein Fellow, and the University of Washington with an MFA. She is an adjunct professor of Education at Seattle University and the University of Washington.

She co-founded Richard Hugo House in 1997. She served ten years as director.

Her work has appeared in MS Magazine, New York Times Book Review, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, The Stranger, The Seattle Times, Nest Magazine, Teachers College Record and Seattle Social Justice.

Awards

McCue has received grants and residencies from Centrum, Artist Trust, 4Culture, Hedgebrook, Echoing Green Fellowship from 1998-2002. McCue's book, The Bled won the 2011 Washington State Book Award for poetry. Her book The Car That Brought You Here Still Runs: Revisiting the Northwest Towns of Richard Hugo was a finalist for the 2011 Washington State Book Award in the History/General Nonfiction category.
