Biography
Ford Quint Elvidge (November 20, 1892 – July 14, 1980) was Governor of Guam from April 23, 1953 to May 19, 1956, the second civilian governor of the island. After President Dwight D. Eisenhower took office in January 1953, he appointed Elvidge Governor. Before becoming Governor, Elvidge had been an attorney in Seattle, Washington.
Early life
Elvidge was born November 30, 1892 in Oakland, California, Ford Elvidge spent his early years in Oakland before moving with his parents and brother in 1911 to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Governorship
As Governor, Elvidge improved Guam's school system. He also cut spending while improving the efficiency of many departments. Elvidge resigned in 1956.
Death
He died at the age of 87 in Seattle on July 14, 1982.
