Fiona Hill

Fiona Hill (born October 1965) an Anglo-American foreign affairs specialist and national security official specializing in the former Soviet Union and Russian and European affairs. In April 2017, she was appointed by U.S. President Donald Trump as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for European and Russian Affairs on his National Security Council staff.

Hill studied at the University of St Andrewsin Scotland and Harvard University, where she gained her master's degree in Russian and modern history 1991 and her PhD in history in 1998 respectively. While at Harvard she was a Frank Knox Fellow. She worked in the research department at the John F. Kennedy School of Government from 1991 to 1999 and at the National Intelligence Council as national intelligence officer for Russia and Eurasia from 2006 to 2009. She is currently on leave of absence from the Brookings Institution, where she is director for the Center on the United States and Europe, while serving on the staff of the National Security Council. Hill is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the board of trustees of The Eurasia Foundation.

Hill's books include The Siberian Curse: How Communist Planners Left Russia Out in the Cold (2003), Energy Empire: Oil, Gas and Russia’s Revival (2004), and Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin (2013).
