Biography

Fernando Sulichin is an Argentine filmmaker, producer and philanthropist. He is the founder of two production companies, Central Films and New Element Media. He has produced more than 25 films and worked with filmmakers including Spike Lee, Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese, Marlon Brando, Sean Penn, Jim Jarmusch and Abel Ferrara. Sulichin’s productions have received numerous awards such as Sundance Prize Winner “Love Liza“ (2003) by Todd Louiso and Mary, Winner at Venice Film Festival by Abel Ferrara (2004).

Sulichin has backed philanthropic endeavors throughout his career. He collaborated with Martin Scorsese The Film Foundation and is a life member of Nelson Mandela´s Foundation. He is currently board member of the J/P Haitian Relief Organization founded by Sean Penn. Sulichin also collaborates with The David Lynch Foundation. In 2015, Sulincin was awarded the Legion of Honour, France’s highest order of merit, for his work on a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of greenhouse gas emissions and global warming.

Sulichin participated in the Peace to Prosperity workshop in Bahrain, a White House-led conference meant to promote a peace plan by encouraging investment and economic development in the Palestinian Territories. At this event, he participated in a panel discussion with FIFA President Gianni Infantino about the “Power of sports and entertainment” and their role in development.

Early life

Sulichin was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and moved to the United States in the late 1980s to study architecture at UCLA. While at UCLA he became interested in the film industry and in the power of films to influence culture.

Career

Sulichin’s first production was screened at the Paris-based Short Circuit Film Festival. He met Spike Lee at the Festival and later became the associate producer of Lee’s 1992 film Malcolm X.

In 2001 and 2002, Sulichin produced the feature films Bully, Spun and Love Liza. In 2004, he set up a Paris-based production company, Central Films, which produced Abel Ferrara’s Mary, Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s Babel, and Jim Jarmusch’s Gimme Danger. He partnered with Oliver Stone to produce Alexander (2004), Savages (2012) and Snowden (2016). Sulichin also worked with Stone to produce documentaries including South of the Border (2009), The Putin Interviews, Persona Non-Grata (2003), Comandante (2003) and Looking for Fidel (2006). Sulichin helped set up was Stone’s meeting with Hugo Chávez and Sean Penn’s meeting with El Chapo.

Sulichin has worked with Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation and The David Lynch Foundation. He is associated with Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund andis a Board Member of Sean Penn’s Haitian Relief charity CORE (formerly J/P HRO).

Sulichin is currently working on Flag Day with Sean Penn and White Lies with Benicio Del Toro.
