Evonne Rae (June 17, 1928 - June 3, 1974), was an American editor and comics writer who worked for Story Comics, Youthful Magazines, Dell Publishing, and Macfadden Communications Group.
Life and career
Evonne Rae, or sometimes Yvonne Rae or Miss Ray, was born on June 17, 1928 Evonne Rae, or sometimes Yvonne Rae, attended Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa.
As a comics writer, she wrote several stories for artist Hy Fleishman and others for Story Comics in New York. With penciler Ross Andru and inker Mike Esposito, Rae also wrote a "Captain Marble" parody for Nuts!, Premier Magazine's Mad knock-off. In addition, she wrote regularly for Andru and Esposito's own Mad knock-off, Get Lost! (Story Comics).
In 1954, Rae became the editor of Story Comics after its owner William K. Friedman testified to the Senate Sub-Committee on Juvenile Delinquency in April 1954.
In 1961, Rae began working for Dell Publishing and eventually became editor-in-chief for Dell Purse Books. She edited such magazines as Teens Today and True Love.
Death
Rae died in a car accident on June 2, 1974, in East Hampton, New York.
