Biography
EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION
Ernest Koranteng is a Ghanaian journalist, strategy & marketing communications consultant and a business man. He was born on August 24, 1983 in Accra, Ghana. He started his primary education at Police Academy Basic and Junior High school at Tesano in Accra where he wrote his BECE and entered West Africa Senior High school to study business and there he discovered his love and passion for talking sports. In 2014, Ernest Koranteng graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (first class honours). He further studied for a Master of Business Administration in Marketing Management at the University of Ghana. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in Business Administration at the Toulouse Business School in France.
HIS JOURNEY AS A JOURNALIST
He began his journalism career at Peace Fm in January 2003 before a move to Choice FM five months later.His time at Peace Fm (January-May 2003) was brief but crucial to forming the basis for his journalism profession which was later honed and developed at Choice Fm under the inspiring leadership of Kwame Anane Crane. At Choice Fm, Ernest developed production, writing, presentation skills and had opportunities to lead team members.
But it was the 14 months at Top Radio from June 2004 that Ernest furthered his managerial interest and leadership skills through opportunities provided by the legendary commentator, immigration lawyer and sports management expert, Sarfo Abebrese.
A move to the multimedia group (October 2005-October 2012) followed with the next 7 years proving such a magnificent experience in his journalism, managerial, education and consultancy career. Ernest had the opportunity to get into management before turning 25 years old as head of sports on Joy Fm (radio) and later across new media (myjoyonline.com) and television (Multi Tv). Inspiring an innovation-driven idea generation, production and airing of sports content across radio, online and television platform was the basis for his management and leadership style. Convergence was in full flight with tangible unprecedented audience numbers recorded with their corresponding revenue gains across business operations.
The mentality that ‘let’s work harder, let’s get it done, let’s do it even better’ was the epitome of his work as leader and manager of sports brands at the Multimedia Group and Metro Tv, improving the landscape of sports broadcasting to have just about anything from news and analysis content, events, activation and real life experiences through sports for team members, the entire organization and most importantly the audiences.
Ernest’s experiences in management has one major takeaway and it is that, management is the most outstanding of all of life’s skills and if practiced well, offers learning and growing opportunities, taking up responsibilities and being recognized for achievements and contributions to the success of any endeavour.
Ernest has been chiseled by adversity with the many personal and professional challenges he has faced throughout his life and career.
Leadership is more than one person taking charge and providing direction because diverse qualities are required and these exist in different people. This mindset has been responsible for the opportunities facilitated by Ernest to several people who have posted varying successes mainly in journalism, education, management and life in general. Ernest is a Christian, and for him, it is a matter of God caring for people through people.
Ernest Koranteng is a veteran of witnessing and covering, as a journalist and manager, several local and international sports events across cup competitions, the Africa cup of Nations, the Fifa World Cup, and the Olympic Games.
