Biography

Elizabeth Butler (born August 12, 1960) is an American singer-songwriter and musician whose musical style has been generally classified as Americana, pop, and folk.

Early life

Elizabeth Butler was to parents Francis (Frank) and Elizabeth (née Warner) Butler.Her father worked as a housing authority director.She is of Irish, French, and German decent. She is the fourth of six children and was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia.

She began playing guitar at eleven years old, taking several formal lessons then becoming self-taught.She began performing at church events at the age of thirteen and became a church musician in her later teens. She began writing songs at fifteen years old.

She attended college in Atlanta, Georgia. In her early twenties she transitioned into writing folk and pop songs and recorded her first demo tape.

Career

In 2004 she founded Running Home Records based in Houston, Texas.Butler was performing with Running Home, an Americana-country-jazz duo with Suzanne Comeaux Bucher that quickly garnered airplay and a widespread fan base. They performed for several years but both were married and had children so they put their music project on hold.They released their debut album, Running Home, in 2006 which received international radio airplay on college radio stations, most notably in the United Kingdom, Australia, and the U.S..

Love & Loss & Stuff Like That, Butler's sophomore album which was released in 2014, received favorable reviews and her singles Love Over Logic won Best Country Song at the Indie Music Channel Awards in 2014 as well as A1A (Settin' Myself Free) winning Best Country Recording. A1A (Settin' Myself Free) was also nominated for Best Americana Song at the HMMA Awards (Hollywood Music in Media Awards) in 2014. In 2017, her single, If I Knew, charted on Hot A/C Music charts. Arun Shenoy also recorded a jazz version If I Knew released on Narked Records in 2017.
