Biography

Edwin Louis Garvin (October 25, 1877, Flatbush, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York – October 10, 1960, Patchogue, Suffolk County, New York) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. He was a judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Life

He graduated B.A. from New York University in 1897 and LL.B. from New York University School of Law in 1899. He married Ida Elizabeth Crane, the sister of Chief Judge Frederick E. Crane.

He was nominated to the court by Woodrow Wilson on March 6, 1918, to a seat vacated by Van Vechten Veeder, confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 21, 1918, and received his commission on March 21, 1918. His service terminated on October 31, 1925 when he resigned.

He was justice of the New York Supreme Court from 1941 to 1947.

He died at the Brookhaven Memorial Hospital.
