Edwin Lee Nix (1933 - 2014) was an American football player, police officer, and racecar driver.
Background, education, and career
Edwin was on March 14, 1933, in Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee.
He graduated from Isaac Litton High School, Nashville, Tennessee, in 1953. After school, he worked with his father at his garage.
He attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he played football. He served as a deputy for the Davidson County Sheriff's Department, in Nashville.
Personal life
Edwin married singer, actress, June Carter, on November 11, 1957. The couple had a daughter, Rosie Nix Adams, on July 13, 1958. Rosie went on to become a famous singer/song-writer.
Edwin and June divorced in 1966. In around 1985, Edwin married Ira Pilkinton.
June fell in love with country singer, Johnny Cash, married him in March 1968. They remained married until her death in May 2003, just four months before Cash died. The couple's son, John Carter Cash, is also a musician.
Death
Edwin died on February 1, 2014, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 80. He was survived by his wife, Ira Pilkinton Nix; a son, Edwin G. Nix; two daughters, Cynthia (Gary) Howard and Hope Baker; a sister, Mildred Grammer; four grandchildren, Chelsey Nix, Alec Baker, Matthew Howard and Camille Baker; one great-grandchild, Makiah White.
