Biography

Eamonn Butler (born 1953) is a British economist. He is the co-founder and Director of the Adam Smith Institute.

Early life

Eamonn Butler was born in 1953. His brother is Stuart Butler. He graduated from the University of St Andrews.

Career

He worked on pensions and welfare issues for the United States House of Representatives in Washington DC, before returning to the UK where he served as editor of the British Insurance Broker Monthly.

He co-founded the Adam Smith Institute in London with his brother Stuart and Madsen Pirie, both graduates from the University of St Andrews. He now serves as its Director.

He is author of books on the work of three economists: Hayek: His Contribution to the Economic and Political Thought of Our Time; Milton Friedman: A Guide to his Economic Thought; Ludwig von Mises: A Primer; Ludwig von Mises: Fountainhead of the Modern Microeconomics Revolution. He is also co-author of a number of books on intelligence and IQ testing. Additionally, he has contributed extensively to national magazines and newspapers like The Times on subjects ranging from health policy, economic management, taxation and public spending, transport, pensions, and e-government.

He serves as the Secretary on the 2012-2014 Board of Directors of the Mont Pelerin Society.

Butler received an Honorary Doctorate from Heriot-Watt University in 2012
