Kerkez began his football career in Serbia at FK Partizan from 1997 to 1998, but did not manage any first team appearances under head coach Ljubiša Tumbaković.

In 2005, Kerkez left the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina for Croatian club NK Rijeka in the Prva HNL, the top Croatian football league.
