Biography
Dr. Sanjeeva Nayaka is studying lichens of India since 20 years. Primarily he is interested in lichen taxonomy, but he is also studying lichen as biomonitors of air pollution, climate change and as potential source of biomolecules. He has travelled across India for collection of lichen; described 21 taxa as new to science and reported about 50 taxa new to India. So far he has published about 200 research papers in peer reviewed journals, handled 28 research project as PI and Co-PI. He has visited Schirmacher Oasis, East Antartica twice for studying lichens. Recently, Dr. Nayaka taken charge of Lichenology and Algology Laboratory of CSIR-NBRI.
Dr. Nayaka is Secretary of Indian Lichenological Society and member of several national and international academic societies. He also editor of journals Tropical Plant Research and Cryptogam Biodiversity and Assessment.
Dr. Nayaka is a Kannadiga, hails from a small town Koppa (near Sringeri) in Karnataka. He is educated up to masters from various institutions in Karnataka and obtained his doctoral degree from Dr. RML Avadh University, Faizabad while working at CSIR-NBRI.
