Biography

Donald W. Martin (September 24, 1890 – April 3, 1952), of Cleveland, Ohio, was a philatelist who helped organize stamp collecting as a hobby in the Cleveland area.

Philatelic activity

At the local Cleveland level, Martin was a member of the Garfield-Perry Stamp Club, joining the club in 1926. He served in various offices and posts within the club, and was president in 1936 to 1937. He was named Life Member No. 1 by the club for his years of extraordinary service.

On the national level, Martin was a member of the American Philatelic Society (APS) and served it in various ways, including acting as a member of the Board of Vice Presidents from 1939 to 1943. Martin was also the Cleveland representative for the National Federation of Stamp Clubs which had been founded by Harry L. Lindquist.

Honors and awards

For his dedication to the advancement of stamp collecting in the Cleveland area, Martin was awarded the Hanford and Herman trophies by the Garfield-Perry Stamp Club. He was named to the American Philatelic Society Hall of Fame in 1952.
