Biography

Dick Curtis (1 February 1802 – 16 September 1843) was a professional boxing pioneer born in Southwark, London.

Pro career

Known as the “The Pet of the Fancy”, Curtis turned professional in 1820 and on February 27, 1827 defeated Barney Aaron. Curtis' lone defeat came at the hands of Jack Perkins on December 30, 1828, when he lost on a foul.

Honors

In 2006, Curtis was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, "Pioneer" Category.

Death

Curtis died from injuries sustained while sparring on 16 September 1843 in England.
