Derrick Davenport (born March 6, 1978) is an American former basketball player in the National Basketball Development League and in Europe.
Life and career
Derrick Davenport was born Derrick Ben Davenport on March 6, 1978, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He graduated from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1997. He then attended Texas Christian University (TCU), Fort Worth, Texas, graduating in 2001. While at the university, he played for the university team TCU Horned Frogs.
After graduating from TCU in 2001, Davenport played professional basketball in Italy. He first joined the team Montecatiniterme Basketball and later switched to another Italian basketball club Pallacanestro Pavia for a trial period. He then joined Celana Basket Bergamo—a basketball team in the city of Bergamo, Italy—and scored 11.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in 2001-2002.
In 2002, Davenport began playing for the Turkish professional basketball team Fenerbahçe. Playing with them, from 2002-2003, he scored 19 points on average. In 2003, he played with Dijon, France-based team JDA Dijon Basket.
In November 2004, Davenport was selected by The Asheville Altitude in round 7 with pick 6 in the 2004 Annual NBA Development League Draft. (The Asheville Altitude was one of eight founding franchises of the National Basketball Developmental League in 2001.)
In 2008, Davenport accepted the offer by Damascus, Syria-based basketball team Al-Jaish Sports Club and played in the 2008-2009 season. In 2010, he joined Vestelspor Manisa, a professional basketball club based in Manisa, Turkey.
