David Andow

Biography
David A. Andow is a Distinguished McKnight University Professor of Entomology and Ecology at the University of Minnesota.
Life and career
Born in Ohio, David Andow attended Brown University from which he graduated in 1977 with Sc.B. (Magna cum laude) degree in biology. Five years later, after studying under David Pimentel and Simon A. Levin, he obtained his Ph.D. in ecology from Cornell University. Andow is internationally known for his research into community ecology and is specialized in risk assessment of invasive species, genetic engineering and management of resistance in insects. As a National Science Foundation postdoc, Andow have studied rice insects with Keizi Kiritani at the National Institute of Agro-Environmental Sciences in Tsukuba, Japan. Following it, he became a postdoc at the Cornell University and since 1984 is a faculty of its Departments on conservation biology, ecology, entomology, sustainable agriculture, and natural resource economics.

Personal life
His son, Lucas, is majoring in comparative literature and Portuguese language at the University of Minnesota, whileDebora, his wife, is a research scientist in molecular entomology at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation.
